Tuesday Fellowship

The Tuesday Fellowship meets weekly at 2:30p.m. in the Stable Rooms. The Tuesday Fellowship is a friendly group of older ladies who enjoy a varied programme of speakers drawn from charities, church members, craft and hobby enthusiasts, music and interesting occupations. As well as being informative and good fun, the talks have a Christian outlook.

The group enjoys occasional outings, for example to Bury St Edmunds, the coast and local places of interest. The Christmas and midsummer meals are always popular events. The group is grateful to car drivers who ensure that members without transport can still attend.

There is a good and well-established relationship with the women's groups from the other churches in the villages enhanced by regular united services throughout the year.

At the invitation of the Head of the Nursery School and under the leadership of one of our members, the Women's fellowship worked on a story sack for the children. It was quite hard work to create but good fun and has been much appreciated by the staff and children at the school. Members help with the crèches for Teddy Bear Time activities and with the refreshments for the occasional Under 5s services. There is also an additional monthly prayer meeting for members on the first Wednesday morning of each month.

CYFA

CYFA meets every Thursday evening (7pm-9pm) during term-time for 2 hours in the Stable Rooms for Christian teaching and fellowship. We have recently explored the life of Jesus, the nature of prayer and the creation story.

CYFA is a time of debate and questioning so that the stereotypical teaching of lists and rules is avoided and the young people are helped to find out what they believe and why, in a bid to give them a firm foundation for life. The aim is to help young people in their Christian lives, encouraging Bible reading and prayer.

It is not all talk though! There are regular trips to bowling, laser questing and meals and the occasional sleepover.

As the CYFA members have considered how to make the group more inclusive they have developed the CYFA Café. This is open to all young people in Year 10 and upwards and takes place every Sunday between 5-6:30p.m. in the Stable rooms. CYFA Café promises to be a lively event, offering refreshments, games, including video games, and a short discussion where the greater the diversity of opinions the better.

RAYZ

RAYZ

RAYZ is a youth club for 11 to 14 year olds. RAYZ meets in the Church Halls from 7p.m. to 8:30p.m. on Wednesday evenings. RAYZ is led by a group of adults and senior CYFA members.

RAYZ aims to be an open youth club, although it also wants to be a place where the Pathfinders from St. Andrew's can socialise and bring their friends. We have several pool tables, computer games, table tennis and table football. We usually play some team games and also have craft sessions. We also go on trips to such places as ‘Spymasters’.

Men's Group

The Men's Group began in 1996 and meets monthly to offer its members fellowship and provide interest through stimulating speakers. Their leader, Roger Parr, says,"This is definitely not a group of old men sitting on a park bench reminiscing but lively presentations by members and invited guests of their professional lives, skills, interests and hobbies. These demonstrate rich experiences and how members have sought to realise their potential even in the adverse times of war and poverty. In a society where many men seem no longer to know what their role is, it is reassuring to find that meeting in this way helps reflect and build on the Christian virtues on family, work, church and community."

Please contact the Church office if you are interested in attending or helping. Thank you.

Painting Group

A number of people who already enjoy painting or those would like to try meet on Thursday afternoons at 2:30p.m. in the Stable Rooms. Participants bring their own materials but guests are invited to attend a session on a "come and see" basis. In such cases, help with materials is provided on the first visit. Further information from the Church office.

Choir

The adult choir leads worship at the 9:15a.m. service and whenever there is a 7:00p.m. 1662 Holy Communion service.

Choir practices are on Thursday evenings from 7:30-9:00p.m. All are welcome, especially altos, tenors and basses. The choir welcomes people interested in music-making to join them. For those who cannot commit to attending every service, there are opportunities to augment the choir for special services at Christmas, Easter and other festivals. You do not need to be able to read music, although it would help, just an interest in serving God in this way.

The choir leaders and members have taken inspiration from Matt Redman's words in The Father's Song, with their reminder that it is God we are worshipping and that our music-making is for His glory, but God's song for us is far greater than anything we can offer Him.

I have heard so many songs,
Listened to a thousand tongues,
But there is one that sounds above them all.
The Father's song, the Father's love,
You sung it over me,
And for eternity it's written on my heart.

Men's Sports Group

The Men's Sports Group was started in 1998, primarily as a social group offering fellowship in a sporting context. The group meets weekly and typically play volleyball, unihoc, Ultimate (an excellent game involving a frisbee) or go on summer cycle rides. Sporting prowess is not required in order to participate! Cost is £2 per person to cover the gym booking fee.

The men meet on Friday evenings at 9p.m. at IVC Sports Hall. After playing, the group reconvenes at the King Bill in Histon.

In May 2000 the group went away for the first time and had an enjoyable time hill-walking in the Peak District. Walking weekends are now an annual feature.
